Famous Foodpuns
Overview
Using the highest form of comedy, puns, I set out to create a collection where I merge popculture icons with various food items. Thus, creating my Famous Foodpuns.
Challenge
Getting enough ideas to keep this train running. How exactly do you get Danny Devito’s face to work on a Dorito? How on earth do I get a pickle to resemble the greatNicolas Cage? These are the things that keep me up at night.
Approach
Before even starting I had to make sure the idea itself would work. I began creating lists of foodpuns with different celebrity names and running it past friends and family to make sure that the pun wasn’t too much of a stretch or confusing.Once I had buy in I would start collecting reference images of both the celebrity and the the food that I had to merge together. Depending on the pun some of the Famous Foodpuns needed arms, or the entire joke was in the naming convention and didn’t need to actually resemble the person it was supposed to be i.e. Abra-Ham Lincoln.
Results
What started out as a fun little project that I made for my own amusement my freshman year of college exploded into a collection of Famous Foodpuns. Hopefully one day they will be a household name and I can get some sales for the pins and t-shirts that I have placed them on.
